Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.

I became initially interested in the idea of helping save lives when my mom's brother accidentally shot himself in the head. This incident occurred at a party at my uncle's house that he was throwing. While at the party, my uncle was drinking alcohol and as the night got closer he went to the bathroom, but unfortunately got ahold of the gun he kept there for safety and accidentally shot himself on the side of his head. During this time, my family was panicking and calling 911, but no one knew at the party how to help him except watch and wait until an ambulance arrives. I knew at that moment that I wanted to get involved and help individuals during medical emergencies. During his stay at the hospital, he needed to receive lots of blood donations from other individuals because of the amount of blood he had lost. After the doctor and nurses had stabilized him, minutes later they had called a code blue because his heart had stopped, fortunately, the staff was able to resuscitate my uncle. From here on, my family and I became very passionate about the idea of helping save lives by donating blood because my uncle almost lost his life by this accident and doctors believed that he was not going to make it. Experiencing this incident, inspired me to pursue a career that involves helping individuals during medical emergencies. I want to be a person who has medical knowledge, can help give aid to individuals who need, and have a positive impact on the community. In all, this scholarship will help me attend and complete college to reach my goal of becoming a registered nurse.
