Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.

For a long as I can remember, the medical field has always been an interest of mine. My family has always encouraged me to follow my heart, and my granddad has been my #1 fan for as long as I can remember. On the day I turned 16, my grandfather, known as "Papa" to many people, bought me my very own stethoscope that I still treasure to this day. Papa has had some serious health issues in the past and has been in and out of the hospital multiple times. I can vividly remember going to visit him in the hospital when I was younger. I believe that this is where my desire to help others officially flourished. Fast forwarding a few years to my senior year of high school, I was able to intern with a local physician from my hometown. I learned about the daily activities that go into being a doctor as well as observing various nursing tasks throughout the day. This experience led to my passion of becoming a nurse. Now that I have almost completed my first year of nursing school, I am confident that I have made the right decision. I know that my heart is in the right place as I want to care for the patients and their families during some of the most difficult times they will experience. As I am currently finishing my second clinical rotation, it is evident that I learn something new every day. In addition, in the years to come, I know that I will continue to grow and learn way that I can make my patients feel a little more human and a little less like the disease or illness they are battling.
