Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.

My inspiration for pursuing a nursing career comes from my children. I was a teen mother who put off going to college for several years. I always knew that I wanted to pursue a nursing career from a young age. My son had a febrile seizure when he was two years old and it frightened me immensely. I made myself a promise that when he was starting kindergarten I was going to LPN school. I became a LPN in 2004 when my oldest child was in kindergarten. I was a single parent at the time and knew my passion for wanting to help others was flourishing. My oldest graduated high school in 2016 and went on to college. Watching his determination inspired me to want to set a positive example for both him and my two younger daughters and I set forth with working on my prerequisites for registered nursing in January 2017. Keeping focus and showing my children that if you want something it takes drive and determination, but also showing them that dreams are within reach no matter how old you are, has been a major self disciplining goal. My boyfriend also inspires me to not give up by supporting me mentally through it all and loving me even when I prove to be moody. I am also inspired by my faith in God and love of humanity. Nursing is definitely more than a career, it is a passion from the heart and is rewarding both spiritually to the soul as well as mentally. I am blessed to be able to pursue my dreams and goals and am guided by this passion of love, life, and comfort in care. I am currently in the second semester of the RN program and although the conflicts of identities for me being a mother, student, employee, and girlfriend can accumulate stress at times, I know that without a doubt this is where I should be and that in the end it will all be worth it and prove to be a successful decision. I strive to be the best nurse I can possibly be by showing compassion and treating each person throughout my career as an individual with unique, personalized needs.
