Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.

Throughout my entire childhood, I always wanted to become a veterinarian. I loved animals and wanted to work with them and help them get better. When I started high school, my career interests changed, and I shifted my focus more towards helping people rather than animals. I chose nursing because I enjoy working with people and I also really enjoy educating them about their health. Having a minor in Health Promotion, it has helped me embrace and learn how to educate people on their condition and what they need to do to either prevent a health issue from occurring or how to manage those issues once they have them so that they can live better, healthier lives. I love to learn and in the nursing career, there is always something new to learn because more and more research is being done all the time, therefore enhancing what we know about health. Another reason I chose nursing is because there are several individuals in my family who have had health issues. Seeing some of my family members go through surgeries or procedures and being around a hospital setting, I have seen the role that nurses have on caring for patients and I want to be a part of that. I love interacting with patients and it has really helped me come out of my shell and be more confident. I want to be a part of patients’ care and touch their lives in the same ways that they have touched my family members.
