Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.

Nurses, the hardworking, the persevering, and the caring. There are many words that can describe a nurse and there are various things a nurse can do. Nursing is a field where people have to be quick on their feet and make decisions quickly. This is of interest to me because I want to be able to adapt to my environment and be able to face the many challenges that nurses have to face on a day to day basis. The field of nursing also gives the opportunity to care for others and it provides stability for those who decide to pursue it. The biggest factor that influenced me, however, was the relationship between the nurse and the patient. Ever since I was a young girl, I would sing and perform for the elderly at the nursing homes, especially during Christmas time. I enjoyed seeing the people smiling and making the others happy, however, someone at the nursing home told me that their family doesn't come to visit them anymore so they were extremely grateful that I would come often. This made me sympathize with the people there because they would not have any other company besides the other residents and the nurses who took care of them. However, witnessing the nurses taking care of the elderly really inspired and impacted me. Seeing the relationship that the nurses and the people built made me happy that the elderly had someone to talk to and be with. I don't simply want to excel at my job or be a great caretaker. I don't want to just help people get better. I want to create relationships with others and give other comfort when they need it. I want to be the person they can talk to and the true friend that everyone needs. Nurses, the big hearted, the loving, and most of all, a true friend.
