Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.
Nursing is one of the most trusted professions in the United States. Nurses are some of the most caring people in the world, and they work hard to ensure that patient's health are as good as it can get. Nurses often are seen as people who just pass medications and do whatever the doctor tells them to. Nurses are much more than that, they are innovators, teachers, advocates, critical thinkers, caregivers, therapists, and lifesavers. Nurses are also the shoulder to cry on when someone's family member has taken their last breath, we are the people who are there for someone who is dying and has no family to spend their last minutes on Earth with them, and we are the ones who are there for people who are struggling with depression and are in the darkest period of their lives. The nursing profession is always evolving, because there is always an influx of new and current evidence based research, which causes nurses to evolve their level of care constantly. Nursing is not an easy profession, but it is one of the most important professions in this country. Without nurses, there would be no healthcare. These reasons are the reasons why I have decided to pursue a nursing degree.
I believe I should be selected for a scholarship because I am a first-generation college student in my family. I will also be the first nurse in the family. My parents have no college education, and my father did not graduate from high school. Ever since I started my college education, I have been paying for everything myself, with some assistance from financial aid. My parents have been unable to provide financial assistance for me while I have been in college. I am currently working as an HSA at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose, CA, and I am currently working full time and will be continuing to work full-time while I am working on getting my bachelor's degree in nursing. I love my job, and I love helping people, and am looking forward to my future career as a nurse.
