Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.

Along the course of my life, many things have inspired me to pursue a nursing degree. When my brother was five years old, he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. He was constantly in the hospital and had to repeat kindergarten because he missed so many days of school. When I was four years old, I had my first episode of epilepsy. My parents were in distress because of what was happening to their only two children. I continued to have seizures until I was seven, but then they disappeared. However, they shortly came back when I was 16, and I have not had them since. Every time either my brother or I would go into the hospital, it would captivate me because of how amazing the doctors and nurses were. It also frightened me because of how many other sick people there were. I looked into nursing short after my junior year of high school and figured it would be an amazing field to go in because there would be nothing more I would want to do than to help other people that have to struggle with illnesses. It occurred to me that if I could be one of the nurses that helped someone in the many waiting rooms I have been in or to reassure the parents of the sick child that everything will work out, my life would be complete. Other than helping patients, learning about the human body and knowing why certain things happen really interests me. It is absolutely fascinating to understand why things happen and what could go wrong in certain situations. A nurse can tell a lot about a patient by their physical appearance and lab tests, which to me, is interesting how things correlate and play a major part in the diagnosis.
