Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.

I chose to pursue a nursing degree because my love for helping people. Early 2014 when the Ebola outbreak stated, I was in 7th grade. As a 13 year old I found all this information scary. From learning about the doctors and nurses that were risking their lives to help those in need inspired me. I had began to believe that I wanted to live a meaningful life where I know that when I look back on my life, I am able to say I helped many people and made a positive impact of those around me. After going on mission trips to Haiti and the Dominican Republic and seeing their need for medical attention, I knew that nursing was something I wanted to do for sure. Since my sophomore year in high school I have wanted to travel to 3rd world countries and provide medical care to people who are in need. While I know being a traveling nurse is something I do not want to do for my entire career, I have thought about the trauma department, oncology, and domestic violence and abuse victims. All of these areas have had a personal impact on me and I believe that because of my personal experience, I will be able to excel in those nursing fields. I have always been someone that helps others, even all the way back to when I was little and begged my mom to let her let me help her with things around the house. I know that I have a strength with helping and great social skills which has led me to wanting to pursue a BSN in order for me to do what I love on a daily basis. I believe that being able to get people back to their feet when they are at a low point in life will be one of the best feelings and accomplishments I can have.
