Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.

I have chosen a career in Nursing because I believe this is the direction that I would be best suited for. I love helping people no matter the extent. I am very caring, compassionate and empathetic towards people's wants, wishes and needs. In addition to wanting to help the patient with their disease or illness, I also want to focus on the person themselves. I am a great communicator, which is beneficial in teaching and making personal connections with the patients. I have the desire to learn not only about diseases and illnesses, but to be innovative in ways to promote health and prevent diseases. I also believe Nursing is very rewarding and I believe that I can contribute to this profession, because I have a great attitude and drive to be the best I can be. It is important for me to be an advocate for my patient as well as for their family members. I believe that I am an excellent critical thinker, because I perform well under pressure which allows me to come up with solutions during an emergency. A recent example of this is when I recognized my sister going into anaphylaxis and I immediately administered her EpiPen while remaining calm and providing support.

Over the years I have been exposed to many medical situations. For example, my twin brother and sister were both born pre-maturaly and I grew up with equipment in the house consisting of oxygen tanks, feeding tubes, and nebulizers. My mom is also a Nurse herself. She has really opened my eyes to what being a Nurse really is, and it has made me more excited to pursue the dream of becoming a Nurse. Pursuing a career that I know I will love every single day, will never be considered a job.
