Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.
Growing up with both my parents as nurses absolutely brought the idea of nursing into my mind, but it was much more than that. My personality and attitude has always been focused on making someone else happy and worrying about someone else before myself. This was just my nature, but I soon realized that I have set myself up in a terrific position to become a nurse and do what I loved the most - helping people. Not only helping them get better, but helping them through tough times when others can not be there for support. The nurses really develop a deep and trusting relationship with their patients, and this is what I am really looking forward to. Knowing I can change someones mood, and even someone's life inspired me to go for it. All throughout my life I have been fascinated by the human body, and wanted to learn as much as I could to get a better understanding. As a male, it was difficult at first to tell people that I dreamed of becoming a nurse one day. With the majority of nursing students and hirings being female, I knew how people would respond to this. The comments and doubts that I received only made me more motivated, and I learned to trust myself that this was the right path for me. I knew no matter what anyone said, or what anyone thought, I could dominate my classes and really learn how to be the best nurse I could be. Being accepted into all 12 of the nursing programs I applied to, I knew that admission offices saw the same great characteristics that I knew I possessed. I am currently a sophomore at the Penn State College of Nursing, and I can not wait to see what the future has in store for me.
