Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.
My name is Kendal Lee. I am a Maryland Resident and accepted applicant of University of Maryland School of Nursing BSN program for the Spring Semester of 2017.
My ardor for the medical field and personal experience within in it has fueled my passion to pursue my academic and career goals with the intent of becoming a registered nurse. My long-term goal is to further my education, pursue a Master Degree and then go on to entire a Doctor of Nursing Practice Program.
The University of Marylands Upper Chesapeake's Kaufman's Cancer Center provided me with the privilege of being a volunteer in its infusion lab. I was able to witness and work alongside medical professionals who demonstrated exemplary care given to their patients and advised me on exceptional nursing.
My volunteer opportunity allowed me to become a caregiver to patients and later become the primary caregiver of my father who was diagnosed with Stage 2 Esophageal Cancer in November of 2015. His cancer reoccurred, aggressively and in November of 2016, he received a Stage 4 terminal diagnosis. My father lost his life to cancer in August of 2018.
Though the circumstances are unfortunate and posed great financial stressors for our family with what now is one parent's income, I have continued to pursue my education. Receiving this scholarship would grant myself, an academic trailblazer in my family the opportunity to achieve my academically goals affordably.
My experiences have allowed me to be; the patient, the caregiver, and the family member of the patient. This scholarship would grant me the privilege of becoming the professional ( BSN-RN) I dream of becoming.
Thank you in advance for this opportunity.
