Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.

I was inspired to pursue a nursing degree when I got to be apart of my aunt's journey through a malignant stage four brain tumor that eventually killed her. I was able to help my Grandma take care of all my Aunt’s needs and that demonstrated to me the wonderful things that nurses have the opportunity of doing every day of their lives. When I was able to go into her appointments and check-ups, I witnessed how much effort these altruistic people put into their careers. I want to be able to cure people, bring them a smile and help their pain go away. In society, it is usually only the doctors that receive the credit but the nurses are the ones who build a relationship with the patients and that's one of the main reasons I'm choosing to be a Nurse Practitioner. They are practically the middle ground between the two professions, they get to make a connection with the patients and do more of the treating than nurses can. This career is definitely challenging, especially in times like today with the Coronavirus but it is so rewarding and if I can bring comfort and aid to at least one person than I will be happy for the rest of my days. Many professions cannot say the same, and they do not get as much flexibility as nurses can. I can choose several different practices, when I want to work, where I want to work and who I want to work for/with. If I want to work with children than I can, if I want to work late nights, I can, if I want to work for myself, I can as a Nurse Practitioner because they have the clearance to work without being under the guidance of a doctor. There are endless possibilities for this career and I cannot wait to see what happens.
