Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.

As an only child I grew up with a broad imagination. I would play house, school and doctor with my baby dolls. I would play with my neighbors and help take care of their baby here and there. Eventually, I realized I really did love playing with kids and helping people. At age 13, I started babysitting and helping out those around me with their children. This task included me providing supervision, making meals, playing and entertaining the children along with bathing/getting them ready for bed. This opportunity created a realization for me. I was beginning to realize that I want to help families and their children. When I was about 15 years old I started noticing I was very interested in the anatomy and physiology of the human body. During my high school years, I took an anatomy class and excelled in it along with a biology class that I enjoyed on a high level. I was so interested in the subject and information we learned. The two aspects of enjoying children and caring for them along with being very intrigued with the makeup and function of the body created my interest to be a nurse. I would like to pursue a career in the family medicine area or in pediatrics. In order to be eligible to receive a job in either of those fields, I need to earn a nursing degree. I decided to pursue a Bachelors of Science in Nursing through Bemidji State University because it is affordable for me as I am responsible for paying for my tuition bills. It is the school that would allow me to be in the least amount of debt after I graduated and it is close to home which is where I have a job that I enjoy and pays me well. Lastly, I chose BSU because the school has a valuable nursing program. I hope to graduate in May of 2023 with a BSN to further my career in the nursing field.
