Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.
When I was a month shy of eleven, I discovered I could apply to volunteer in the nursery at my church. I was ecstatic because I loved being around children. I had no idea what I wanted to be when I grew up but I knew it had to involve children and caring for others. I love my job teaching one years-olds, although I think they have taught me more than I could have ever taught them. With them, I've experienced a growth in my patience, kindness, creativity, responsibility, and walk with God. Along the way, a superior of mine at the church suggested that I would make a perfect pediatric nurse and it hit me for the first time that nursing is my dream job. I begin enrolling in medical classes at school which further my passion for medicine. The single most influential part of my high school career was when I was accepted into the Health Science Clinical Rotations program at my school. I was able to be an intern at Memorial Hermann Hospital and shadow fantastic nurses, doctors, and other hospital personnel. I learned so much about nursing, medicine, and patient care during my internship that made me excited for the future. The amazing experiences and opportunities Memorial Hermann gave me solidified my dream of becoming a nurse. When the part of me that loves caring for children met the part of me that that loves medicine, it became evident to me that I want more than anything to be a pediatric nurse.
