Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.

I've always loved caring for things. It started as a young child with my baby dolls, then I started babysitting my little sister, then I began babysitting other kids throughout my high school years. After graduating, I started working at a local preschool where I worked with 24 three-year-olds every day. I, then, started nursing school shortly after, and I now am working as a nursing assistant on a medical-surgical floor at one of our local hospitals while attending nursing school. One of my motivating factors of pursing a nursing degree, is the fact that I get to love on and take care of the patients that are placed in my path.
I hope to specialize in oncology nursing when I get my degree. My mom was diagnosed with kidney cancer the summer before my sophomore year of high school. That was one of the worst times of my life. She has been cancer free for about 4 years now. That is one of my greatest blessings. I want to help others get through the worst time of their life, as well. I actually had the opportunity to do one of my clinical rotations on the oncology floor at a local hospital and I fell in love with it and those patients. That was my sign that that is what I want to do.
Nursing school has held some of the worst and best times of my life, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. I am thankful to be on this journey to become a nurse. Any support I can get financially is always a huge blessing. Thank you for considering my application in the midst of the others. It is greatly appreciated.
