Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.

It was a beautiful summer day in Chicago that had all the makings of a perfect day. The sun was out, the sky was a deep crystal blue, and the smell of fresh cut grass was in the air.
For myself though, it was far from a perfect day. It was the worst day of my life. I lost my job, I had no money, and I was homeless.

I sat bawling my eyes out. I asked God for one thing; to find a career that I loved.
I was tired of struggling, but with no idea where to start. Seconds after I called out desperately for an answer, my answer came. A nurse! In that moment, and every moment since, I have not doubted that nursing is my calling, not an inspiration, but my destiny.

I was quite directionless in my youth but the moment I realized that it was nursing, I knew I found my destiny. I knew in pursing this career, I would be able to help make a difference in people's lives. It is not just a job for me.

My future aspirations are to get the highest education possible to become the top in my field and using my education to give back to our community by working with nonprofits.
Now, while I have never once doubted my path to becoming a nurse, it has been a very hard road for me. I never received a formal education, never even stepped inside a formal classroom. I scored high on my GED yet still felt I had to start from the very bottom. I have seriously struggled financially due to this.
It has caused so much stress that sometimes I can’t sleep. I struggle to know how I am going to make it feeling it's my responsibility to figure it out.

Applying for this scholarship is something I can do to put myself in a better
position to turn my stress energy into my studies and upon graduation
start my plan of giving back.

Thank you so much for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Anna M. Robb
