Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.
Ever since I was a kid, I have always wanted to become a nurse. I have always loved helping and caring for others, and have been surrounded by people who have always had strong aspirations, even in their day to day life. More specifically, my mother has always been my biggest inspiration to become a nurse. She moved here at the age of eighteen after graduating from high school in Hawaii with little to no experience speaking English. She worked countless hours to provide a better life for herself, and found out she was pregnant with me at an older age, and knew that she could raise me on her own. She sacrificed so much so I could be able to apply to college, and eventually go since she was never given the opportunity to when she was my age. Her dream had always been to become a nurse, and I want to finish this race with her by my side. Even though she raised me on her own, my father was never a huge part of my life, his effect on me furthered my inspiration to become a nurse. At the age of eleven, he left my mother and I after he moved away, leaving me in confusion as to why I had been abandoned. I had always known that my life was not sunshine and rainbows, but even though his involvement in my life was minimal, it had a drastic change and effect on how I would live the rest of my life. He showed me that there are bad people in this world, including in your own family, and my lack of connection to him made my connection with my mother stronger than I could have ever known, and his lack of connection with me made me want to connect with others the same way I connected with my mother, and I thought nursing was the most perfect career for that. I love helping and leading others, and in my work with children at the YMCA of Arlington, it not only furthered my career in nursing, but pursuing one in pediatrics. I have my mother to thank for pushing me to be the best version of myself, and without her guidance and love, I would not be going to college.
