Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.
I'm 20, male, very interested in ideas, health loving, intense at times, and I like being around people. I’ve decided to be a nurse because I’m obsessed with health. I eat grass fed liver breakfast, use an inversion table, sprint, and manage a cold plunge group. I am fascinated by the human body and the variability in it’s functioning and all the levers we can pull to improve the quality of people’s lives. Nursing gives a person a level of fluidity that is hella useful for the lifestyle I want to move towards. The education necessary to become a nurse (biology, anatomy, nutrition, statistics) is mostly knowledge I already want to learn. My mom is a nurse. I’ve gotten to see her do all sorts of things in the hospital, and see the emotional stress this job puts on her, and the jaw-dropping stories of how people end up there. I think I am predisposed to a desire for a kind of information processing that I think will be really useful when needing to stay up to date and well read on all of the latest medical minutiae. As far as I’m concerned I want to sprint into my BSN, then get my master's degree (CRNA). This path fuels my becoming the best person I can become at helping improve the health of humanity.
