Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.
When I came across nursing, all the fond memories of my elementary school nurse came flooding back to me. I remembered how she made all the sick kids feel safe and cared for. She was easy to talk to and always willing to go above and beyond. I thought about the times I had spent in the hospital and how I admired the ever present nurses tireless efforts to make sure the patients were as comfortable as possible. Something clicked. I knew that I wanted to be hands on with patients all day, everyday. I was designed to become their advocate and bond with them on a personal level. Most of all, I wanted to be able to see them throughout the entirety of their treatments. Nursing was the perfect fit for this.
It has been said that once you find your calling, doors open up. I can attest to this. After changing my major to nursing, I began looking into nursing in the military, following the footsteps of many relatives before me. I read...and read...and read, and was overjoyed to find how many opportunities there were to serve my patients alongside my country.
Ultimately, my dream is to become a nurse who continues to have a lifelong passion for learning. I want to advance with new technology and treatments, providing my patients with the best care possible. Academically, I strive to obtain an upper-level degree in order to become the best I can be. I want to put my stethoscope around a camouflage uniform and keep watch at the bedside of our nation's heroes.
