Write an essay where you tell us about what inspired you to pursue a nursing degree.

When I was 19 years old, like most college students, I was unsure about where I was headed. I knew that I liked science and that I liked helping people. I took classes in biology and in anatomy and physiology. I decided that I wanted to be a in a medical position, but I really didn’t get a chance to delve into any majors because after my second semester at college I had to take care of my mother and siblings and then my first child. I had worked in customer service and the bank for many years but realized I wasn't fully fulfilled. I decided to go back to school to do something I had a passion for. I considered my love for biology, microbiology, and helping people; and decided to go into the field of nursing. I have always been one to put others before myself because I really do enjoy helping others. I decided to become a nurse and I have been working towards that goal now for several years. What I love about nursing is there is an opportunity to help others in so many different ways. The nursing program is by far one of the hardest things I have done. I am proud of the fact that I have maintained that grades I have while continuing to work as well as being in a major accident. I am tough, smart, organized, and resilient. I believe I have what is takes to be a nurse. During my time in hospitals, I received the best care from my nursing staff and only fueled my desire to pursue this career. Receiving my degree in nursing will not only fulfill my desire to help others, it will provide financial stability for my family. I plan on graduating in 2021 and providing care to my community while also receiving my BSN within one year as I have taken all of my electives and prerequisites for the BSN program.
