Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.

Preparing for exams is probably one of the most stressful times for me. In some classes where I have trouble understanding even just the lectures, trying to learn on my own outside of class usually doesn't produce better results. To prepare for an exam, I categorize the content by what I know, what I am unsure about, and what I absolutely do not understand. Based on that ranking I'm able to prioritize what I need to focus on. When it comes to areas of improvement, I always start by reviewing my notes. After that, I try to do practice problems and if provided, complete a practice exam. I find that applying the concepts to actual questions helps me understand practically. My progress on the practice exams also explicitly identify areas of improvement that I can start working towards. To further strengthen my weaknesses, I look for online resources such as YouTube tutorials or crash course videos that might teach me the same concept from a different approach. For the content that I am hopelessly confused about, I tend to drift towards one-on-one tutors whether that be with TAs or going to my professor's office hours. Through years of trial and error, I think I’ve found that applied practice and individual tutoring are my favorite and most successful test preparation practices for me. My GPA has been constantly improving every year, and I hope it continues to stay that way.
