Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.
The first and most important rule is to not wait until the last minute. Preparing for a test is a priority you must have if you want to have the highest level of success. I was told in a staff meeting once, 'Prior proper planning prevents poor performance.' This statement has been found tried and true in my life. I make sure to set aside time away from everything else by creating an atmosphere only about studying. Staying late at my job or going to the school library are two examples that keep me from the distraction of television at home. Sometimes depending on the exam, I put my phone on do not disturb.
Second rule is repetition. Flashcards and study guides are great examples but neither really worked for me. What I found to work are taking practice exams. Taking practice exams help me remember what I have read in the textbook. It also encourages me to look up the answers due to the fact that I hate getting a questions wrong. And even if I get answers wrong I will then know what I really need to study for.
My last rule is to rest. I am no longer the person that studies right up until the last minute. Trying to get that last piece of information before shoving my study guide back into my backpack. I found out in college that last minute absorption of information sometimes does not work. I find that if I study the day before I remember information better than hours before.
I really hope that this helps sometimes. It is important that you choose something that works best for your success.
