Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.

My best test prep starts before the announcement of the test. It is my focus I am determined on keeping while in class. It is too easy to look out the window and see a squirrel. They can be very distracting. Or how I sneak a peek at my phone or just drift into a daydream. I have learned to reign in my thoughts, and stay engaged. Along with that I now take detailed notes, making sure my handwriting does not look like hieroglyphics. If I can not read my handwriting, what good is it? When there are outlines of what will be on the exam, I break it down in sections and allow enough time to study each section. I will not just cram, although I have, I panic and seem to glance everything over quickly. Other strategies that I implement are active recall. I close my book look away and recite what I have just read. I also take practice tests like you would for the ACT or SAT. I have studied the questions that are provided and just plug in different numbers best used in math equations. Taking on the role of a teacher also helps me when studying with friends. The more I explain the topic, it becomes clearer to me. These are some techniques I practice that work for me. Implementing these strategies and techniques have helped me achieve honor roll for my junior and senior year. I have been excepted to seven out of seven colleges that I have applied to. I will major in elementary education at Ramapo College of New Jersey. My road was not easy I have endured many hardships early in my high school career. As a freshman, I moved from New York to New Jersey and it was a tremendous change for me. Shortly after the move, my dad suffered a stroke resulting from an on-duty injury while serving on the NYPD. I thank God he survived. it. Without these test prep techniques, I would not be where I am today. I now have the tenacity, grit, and determination to succeed. Thank you for this great opportunity, I promise to be your greatest investment.
