Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.
Depending on the course content, I prepare for tests through the use of flashcards and pretending I’m teaching the subject to someone. Flashcards are one of my favorite ways to study simply because it is easy to create and bring with you on the go. I can study during my commute or during lunch. I use my flashcards in the format of “word association” type cards, just bite size pieces of words to help me paint a full picture. Another way of test preparation is to pretend that I am trying to teach the subject to someone, or something like my stuffed animal, that has no knowledge about it. This honestly helps me realize that what I think I understand might, in reality, not actually understand. Saying the information out loud and knowing the subject well enough to teach it has raised my test score and gives another frame of understanding. This way of study also pushes you to go beyond that just getting it right, but to learn it until you can’t get it wrong.
