This year I turn the big 4-0, I am continuing my education and am ready for the next, wonderful step in my life. I am entering this year as a single mother of two fantastic children. One that is four and has had some health issues and one that is eight and has significant special needs such as Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Tourette’s, OCD and other learning issues. Two years ago my life changed in a single day and I was suddenly a single mother going through a very long divorce. My children live only with me, I take my son two four different therapies in a week and am taking my daughter into the hospital monthly. Even though I have suffered some very significant life changes over the past few years I am determined to get an education that can provide for my children. After six years of being a stay at home mother, taking care of my children, I jumped back in the workforce and found a career in the medical field that I loved. I have spent the last two years working with physicians and patients and have discovered a career that makes me feel full and complete. I have been able to provide for my children on my own and have shown them that despite all of the obstacles placed in front of you, you can overcome them and find something wonderful. I am determined and self-motivated and this fall I will return to school at Phoenix College to get my certificate for Medical Coding and Billing to advance in the medical field. Having this certificate means everything to me. I will be able to work from home and have the ability to take care of my special needs child while providing a stable environment for work. Unfortunately, I have just lost my job dude to Covid-19, I am applying for this scholarship out of financial necessity. I believe with the help that this scholarship would provide would enable me to get this certificate and provide job opportunities. I will bring in my 40's with a higher education and will show my kids that anything is possible.
