Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.
The first time I took the ACT my mom paid for me to take prep courses from certified teachers and I took practice tests online. My score was okay, but I knew it could be better. My sophomore year of high school I had a homeschool math teacher who understood the importance of the ACT when it came to financial help in Louisiana colleges. She helped me and the rest of the class with different tips and tricks that she had learned from watching her son take the test multiple times. I found that this class and her support was the most helpful aspect of my test preparation experiences. I was able to have her as my math teacher through my senior year of high school and she helped my score to go up multiple points the next few times I took the ACT.
Another test preparation practice I used throughout high school was simply not stressing over the tests that I was taking. This was especially hard when it came to the ACT, because I'm a practical person and I knew that not doing well on the test lowered my chances of being able to go to the college I wanted to go to. Eventually I realized that the more I stressed over it the lower my score would be. I stopped worrying and just made sure that I showed up with my ID, pencils, and calculator and eventually got my score to where I needed it to be.
Although I owe a lot of me getting the score I needed to my math teacher, I also think a large part of it was believing in myself and knowing that I was able to do better
