Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.
There are a lot of different ways to study for tests, but my favorite test preparation practice is to study for 20-30 minutes each night starting about two weeks before the test. Why? This strategy allows me to review the information I am studying and store it in my long term memory so that I will better be able to retain the information without overwhelming myself with too much information too fast. Even though I am not studying for long periods of time, the short time I spend each night is meaningful, and it allows me to truly learn and comprehend the information I am learning.
When it comes to studying, there are different strategies that I use based on how the information was delivered to me. Specifically, when it comes to learning different terms and vocabulary, I prefer to use flashcards in order to help me study. When I make flashcards, I handwrite them because this strategy helps me to retain the terms into my long term memory right away. After I make flashcards, I try to study them little by little over a longer period of time before I am tested on them in order to help me prepare.
Even though I don’t want to get out of my bed, I go over to my desk because I know the test preparation will pay off when it comes time to take my test. Whether it is studying for my AP Chemistry Test, or if it’s for a different test including AP Calculus or Law, my favorite test preparation practices all circulate around the idea of studying little by little over a longer period of time because this way I will truly be able to learn and retain the information for a later purpose, and not just try to memorize the information for the test.
