Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.
When it comes to test preparation, the method that works best for me is studying over periods of time with repetition, rather than cramming it all in the night before. First, understanding the core of the material I am going to be tested on is crucial. To review, I look over notes and sometimes the textbook to ensure I have the general understanding. I make sure not to keep re-reviewing notes over and over again, as constantly reading the same things and expecting something different to happen is not efficient nor effective. Next, I make sure to get any questions I may have answered by professors, and other helpers that may understand the material better than me beforehand. This way, it allows for any problems to arise, and that helps me make the necessary corrections to my knowledge before I make any easily-preventable mistakes on the actual test. Not only is using the knowledge of the ones more knowledgeable important in preparation for a test, but utilizing your peers is just as important. I like to create study groups and go to study sessions since it places me in an environment where I am able to interact further with the material on the test by verbalizing it with others and looking at the material at different angles than rather just looking it from one point of view. That way, whenever the test comes around and I may be stuck on a question, I can use my further knowledge to completely evaluate the validity of the answer choice. But arguably, in my opinion, the best way to prepare for any test whatsoever is to consistently take practice tests. I do not see practice tests to be used to memorize answers off of, as the actual test is more than likely not going to have the same exact questions. However, practice tests are a great way to gauge how much you actually think you know before going into a test, and it may also open up what you do not and things you may need to study more of. Overall, these are just only some of the best ways for me to prepare for tests.
