Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.
Through my first year of college, I have adapted and adopted study habits that are more beneficial to my education. I have found that, personally, information is best understood when one takes the time to process it through all different styles of studying. In almost all cases, I begin by reading the textbook passages that correlate to the test material. While doing that, I take notes in order to be able to remember detailed facts, statistics, or quotes. Next, I read my notes aloud to myself as hearing information promotes deeper understanding. Lastly, it is beneficial to find another student to study with that will be taking the same test. When in a study group, I find it most helpful to compare notes and verbally ask each other questions. It is likely that a partner may have written something down from the reading that you did not. Also, I appreciate the ability to be able to talk concepts out that I may not understand, especially in science-based courses. All of these steps work for me because they incorporate many different senses and styles. Using all of them together is beneficial because if you read something you may not understand it at first, but then you may come to comprehend it if you discuss it with a fellow student. We all have strengths and weaknesses so it is likely that they will understand something you do not and the other way around. This method is how I achieved grades that I was proud of in my first year of college.
