My Test Prep Practices

For almost three years I have been attending college full time, while working full time, and raising two children as a single parent. Test preparation has become an important step towards reaching my goal of obtaining a college degree to better my life and the lives of my children. With so much on my plate, time is limited, and must be used wisely. Most of my studying is done after work in the evenings and on the weekends; juggling around dinner time, kids’ homework, birthday parties, and extracurricular activities, therefore having a solid and time effective plan is paramount to the success of completing coursework. For each course, following the same plan to complete the coursework and pass each test is a simple yet effective way to assure a positive outcome. I begin by reading each chapter in the course and completing the chapter quizzes with a score of 75% or higher. If I do not achieve a score of seventy five percent or higher, I reread the chapter, and take conspicuous notes. I find that writing things down helps me to remember the information later. I follow that by taking an example test for the entire course, then I study the areas I did not excel in. After I feel more comfortable with the subject matter, I retake the example test and when I have excelled on all areas of the example test, I will take the final test. This has proven to be a successful method for preparing for tests and has helped me reach my goal of completing just over half of my degree. I am on track to finish my degree in the next twelve months using this system, and I am looking forward to the opportunities this will present to me and my children.
