Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.
Personally, I spend a majority of my time studying on Quizlet, a website that makes creating flashcards effortless and efficient. It helps decrease time one would spend making flashcards physically and increases productivity. The learn option creates an interactive experience that helps me with memory and recall, and attributes to the majority of A’s I receive on tests and quizzes. Additionally, another beneficial website I’ve used time and time again when faced with an abundance of material to study is Youtube. Watching a multitude of videos on a topic that includes both narrative and visuals helps me understand the material more in depth than notes provided by a teacher.
Furthermore, when prepping for tests I have to constantly battle and fight off distractions. To keep myself on track I usually offer myself a positive incentive. For example, after studying for half an hour straight I’ll make the reward a food such as chocolate, or a couple minutes of screen time. Moreover, there are many students who stay up late the night before a test in order to compensate for procrastinating in the past. Since time is spent studying for a maximum of a couple hours, what material they retain is stored in their short term memories. The likelihood of remembering the information in time for the test, or in the future is extremely low. In order to effectively retain information I spend time studying and reviewing material over the course of several days or weeks. This guarantees a better performance on future tests and exams.
