Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.

I am a freshman at Florida International University (FIU) and to get admitted I had to prepare three different tests: TOEFL, SAT, and GED. I did all of that in six months and no need to say I passed them all with good grades. My method consists of four main steps: know the basics, master the exam format, increase my thinking and answering speed, and stay focus.

The basics

It is important to pinpoint what you need to know to succeed. I discovered that you don't have to know everything to be ready for an exam; you need to know what the test is for and what topic they will cover. I look for previous tests or similar ones to practice. Google and YouTube are great sources of information. You can also look for good preparation books.

Master the exam format

Each exam has his own requirements, a good knowledge of their format, their structure, and their timing is a plus. You know exactly what to expect about the difficulty level, the type and the number of questions. You can prepare better.

Increase your speed

One of the most important parts of taking a test is reviewing your answers. To do so, you need to think and answer fast. If the exam is 3 hours, try to spend 30 minutes reviewing your answers. Practice multiple times while tracking your speed is the best way to improve your speed. When I practice, I make sure I am in a similar environment as it will be the test day. I only use what they allow during the test. If they say no calculator allowed, I don't use one.

Stay focus

I fix my goal, and I stay focus on it. The day before the exam, I take 10 to 20 minutes visualizing me passing the test. This is like a fight, you need to see your opponent and play the match in your head. This is the same, I see in my head the result of my test. The satisfaction and the joy of reaching my goal fill me with more confidence. You are now ready and well prepared; you need the right mindset. Act as you have already succeeded. Set your mental plan; crushing the exam is the result y
