Tell us a little bit about yourself and your plans for college.

I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for the opportunity to apply for the Mometrix College Scholarship. Please allow me to share a glimpse into my journey and aspirations.

At the age of 9, my family and I visited my grandparents in California, marking a pivotal moment in my life. During a sunlit afternoon in my grandfather's backyard, he recounted a dream from his youth in Pakistan—to become a professional pilot. Regrettably, circumstances led him to leave that dream behind when he ventured to the U.S. to provide more for my mother. I recall the enchantment in his eyes as he described the unparalleled sensation of soaring above the world. Unfortunately, as my grandfather shared the challenges of his aviation aspirations, his passion remained absolute. Financial constraints thwarted his ambitions upon migrating to a new country, compelling him to take any job that could support his family.

Inspired by my grandfather's unfulfilled dream, I discovered an uncharted hunger—to surmount obstacles through the freedom of flight. We both find solace in the sky, escaping the constraints imposed on us as I seek refuge from prejudice based on my physical and cultural identity.

Unlike my grandfather, I am blessed with a supportive family and opportunities to pursue my dream without the burden of familial responsibilities. It is my aspiration to represent young minority men who defy cultural expectations. In a time calling for diverse perspectives, I aim to be a pioneer in a field where Asian Americans constitute less than 3% of pilots.

With unwavering conviction, I acknowledge that my place is in the sky, and I am determined to make my dream of becoming a professional commercial airline pilot a reality. The Mometrix College Scholarship will greatly assist in funding my flight school education at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and further the prospect of contributing to the field and breaking barriers for future generations.
