Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.
As an athlete (a competitive cheerleader), I know that I cannot go out on the cheer mat without the proper preparation. I approach my schoolwork and test preparation the same way. The most important part of academic success, like anything else in life, is to have an effective and achievable plan. Before I begin, I have a nutritious snack and drink. Then I prepare an uncluttered surface and make sure that there are no distractions (television off, cell phone on silent mode and put away). I review my daily notes by reading them carefully. Then, I determine what the teacher’s goal was for the lesson and use that as the title for my index card. Next, I attempt to ascertain what the most significant points were in the lesson and list them beneath the goal. No matter how busy I am, I do this every school day without fail. After completing the day’s index cards, I reread the cards from the previous day. After reviewing the material, I may determine that I do not really understand it. When that happens, the next day, I might seek out the teacher or a friend for further understanding. This way I never fall behind. At the end of the week, I review the entire week’s index cards. It might seem like a lot of work, but it really is not. On the weekend, I make a study outline using my index cards as a guide.
By using this method, I never feel unprepared. And when everyone else is pulling all-nighters studying for an exam, I can take comfort in the fact that I am well-prepared and confident in my ability to succeed on the test. This method is foolproof and has served me well throughout the years. For me, it is my ticket to success in the future as I am sure that it will work well in college as well.
