Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.
When it is an all subject encompassing test such as the SAT, I use a program to help me study. The program I used is Khan Academy. It has so many different subjects to study. It also has a SAT specific study section. When I retook the SAT I got a higher score than my first one because I used Khan Academy. This helps me because using online help can generate many different types of questions that you may see, rather than going over the same thing over and over again. It also may be more interactive, making you want to learn since you’re not just staring at a paper for a few hours.
If it’s a test that goes over the entire year or semester I use a similar style of preparation to unit tests. Also, the few weeks before the test I will review every unit or concept over again. I will mark those that I struggled with and go over those a few more times until I feel confident in the information. If I need it, I might ask for a study session with a teacher. Sometimes they have group study sessions and those always work really well for me. I like being able to talk it out with my peers, as the probably have the same questions that I do. I think this works so well for me because I go over everything multiple times so that when the test does come around, I am not blindsided by the things that I learned months ago.
