Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.
I prepare for tests using various methods, and I have always loved teaching and helping others. When preparing for a test, I channel my passion for teaching and talk through the material that I am learning as if I were explaining it to someone else. This helps me to not only read the material but to hear it as well. I try to incorporate as many of my senses as possible when studying. When I am able to clearly explain my objectives, then I know that I understand what has been taught to me. Another way that I like to prepare for tests is to write out the information as I am talking through it, almost as if I was a teacher explaining the material while writing on a whiteboard. This technique incorporates another one of my senses and has proved to be very beneficial for me over my high school career. I have noticed that when I do this, I truly learn the material. I do not just memorize it for a short period of time and then forget it after I take my test. Also, I have found that I study best in a quiet place, preferably my room. It is best for me to remove all distractions when I am studying so that I am able to be as efficient as possible. Another studying technique that I incorporate into my routine is I start studying a little bit each day at least three days before the test. I do most of my studying the night before and the morning of so that the material will be fresh on my mind, however, I have found that simply reading over my notes each day for half an hour significantly helps me. That way, when I go to study for my test, the information is already familiar to me and I memorize it much quicker. I plan to continue using these test preparation practices in college so that I can work towards maintaining a 4.0 GPA throughout my college career.
