Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.

The first step to great test preparation is taking great notes. Once the notes are completed, I need a period of time to let the information sink in. When I am ready to start studying (usually that night), I re-write my notes. I feel that this does three things. #1 It makes me re-read the notes right away and this act helps me retain the information. #2 When I re-write the notes I can look for any places I still need additional help. For example, I can consult the textbook or I can ask the teacher for additional information or help. #3 When I am taking the test I can mentally see the answer on my notes that I have re-written. I know where the answer is and can feel confident in my answers. Truth be told, I usually re-write my notes at least 2 times and sometimes 3 times depending on how much time and how confident I am on the subject. I also try to write the last set of notes in the best handwriting as possible. This makes me slow down and really absorb the content.
Another strategy to test taking preparation is making your own note cards. This strategy is good for multiple choice tests. I like t put the test questions on one side and the answers on the other side. I need another person to help study. They ask the questions and I use my notes to look for the answers. These flashcards help me predict what the questions will be and help me prepare a little differently than re-writing my notes.
Both of these strategies help me visualize the content in my brain. I can see where the answers are. I think this gives me confidence going into a test. These strategies may not work for everybody, but they definitely work for me!
