Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.

My name is Emma Jay and I’m a senior at Mt Spokane High School. Next year I will be attending Yakima Valley College as a student and softball player. My plan is to pursue my teaching certificate and become a math teacher. Throughout my high school career, I have been successful in and out of the classroom and on and off the field.
All throughout high school I have been very fortunate in my smarts as a student. I never had the need to study for every test because everything came very natural to me. I never had to study for any of my honors, AP, pr even normal classes. I just came into a test knowing I could do it because I knew everything. It was not until the winter of my senior year when I realized this may not be the case moving forward, especially in college. I finished the first semester of senior year with a 3.6 GPA, the worst I ever had. I initially blamed it on "senioritis" and thought next semester I would try to focus in more. But it did not work. I realized it was time to start really studying. I often took more notes and constantly looked at them. I actually used my quizlet account for the first time that I was required to make freshman year. Thank goodness I did because otherwise I would not have known about it.
Quizlet is the most common app/ study source I use to this day. It helps me remember things in a way very special to my learning style. When taking a test, it may sound crazy, but I like to visualize things. For example, when I color code my notes, I remember the answer on the test because I can physically see exactly what my notes said, what my handwriting looked like, and the color of the notes. Quizlet helps me with this be cause I can visualize the font, how the note card was formatted and eventually remembering what the card said exactly, leading me to the answer.
