Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.

Over my years as a student, I have tried out many different test preparation practices in order to prepare for an upcoming test. One of the most important things that I have learned from trying out all of these strategies is that it is about more than just memorizing the material that you need to know for the test. In order to score high on a test, you have to be able to understand the information and apply it.

During my junior year of high school, I took AP Statistics. The first semester of that class, all I would do to study was simply look at the formulas and try to memorize them. I never understood what they meant or how to use them, I only memorized them. Come test day, I would be very confused on how to even use the formula, to the point that just memorizing the formulas served me no purpose at all. That being said, my grades were rather low in statistics for the first semester.

I eventually learned that I was going to have to work harder if I wanted to end the years off with a good grade. I started watching videos related to the units we were on before test day so I felt confident that I knew the material well. I would keep practicing different types of problems to learn to apply what I had learned to multiple different scenarios. Not only did doing this help my grade in statistics to go up, but it taught me that preparing for a test involves making sure that you are confident about what you learned and that you know the information well enough to be able to apply it.
