Tell us a little bit about yourself and your plans for college.

I am a studious high school senior whose academic goal is to obtain a bachelor’s degree in computer science. Part of my motivation stems from my parents never graduating from college with a degree. They are smart individuals who, according to them, have had to work harder to prove themselves due to having no degree. They often encourage me to pursue a degree to not have to deal with the job market struggles. My dad is currently self-employed, and my mom is unemployed. It would be a major accomplishment to be able to attend college and graduate with a degree. I do believe today that having a degree can get you a little further than without having one. Another part of my motivation is just wanting to do something positive in my life for myself. Furthering my education will allow me to reach one of my goals of adding change to society using my major. Having a degree will help place me in a position to be an effective and powerful addition to whichever company chooses me to be a part of their team. A bonus is that I would be working in a field that I enjoy. I have always been intrigued by technology. I would like to see what problems I can contribute to solving by incorporating my major. For example, I feel like Computer Science can be a solution to the technical issues that happen with the self-checkout machines at some of the grocery chains by decreasing the number of malfunctions. I believe the machines need a revamp of their software programming that will allow the capabilities to maximize efficiency and usability with fewer scanning errors, misreading of bar codes, and pricing discrepancies.
