Tell us a little bit about yourself and your plans for college.

My name is Beau Sackman and I'm a senior at Omak High School is Omak, Washington. Omak is a small, rural town in North-Central Washington adjacent to the Colville Indian Reservation. I've spent my entire life here and I'm thrilled for this next chapter of my life where I get to experience life outside this area. I am the middle of three children and my parents are both educators. They can't help cover much of our college tuition but we also don't qualify for much from financial aid. My older brother will be a senior in college next year when I start my freshman year and in to years my little sister will be in college. I know it's been important to save money so I've held down a full time job for the last 3 summers, working as a detail clerk and lot attendant at an RV dealership. This is hard, grueling labor in the hot sun but I've managed to save money and I'm proud of that. During the school year I play football and was a 4 year varsity letter winner. I was league player of the year and also named Washington State Coaches Association quarterback of the year as a senior. In the winter I work for my schools athletic department running the clock for basketball games and in the spring I play varsity tennis at the #1 seed. In the spring I also work back at the RV dealership. I'm a member of National Honor Society and JOM. I have tried to be involved in school, but working has made that hard so I try my best. I have a 3.7 GPA. Next year I will be attending the University of Redlands. I loved my visit to campus because it was so different from Omak but still had a variety of outdoor seasons. The mountains, ocean and desert are all close by. I am a bit nervous because it's going to be such a huge change but I need to step outside my bubble and gain these kinds of experiences. I am undecided about my studies but leaning towards environmental science or Health, Medicine and Society.
