Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.

Over the years, I have used many different strategies to get ready for quizzes and tests. I’ve tried flashcards, Quizlet, practice tests and countless apps. My favorite and most effective method was taught to me last year. During my junior year of high school, I took an AP Biology class. Many people told me that I shouldn’t take the class because there is so much information and work because it is worth two semesters of a college class compared to the usual one semester worth of material. But I decided to take the class anyway for the challenge. After learning the first couple of chapters, I realized that it was a lot of information to remember. My teacher taught my class a new method that I had never tried. She said that instead of focusing on the lectures, that we should go through the textbook instead. She said we should go through each chapter and make a study guide with all of the important information. The points need to be brief enough that we can remember it, but still get the point. So for my next test I tried the method. I took the textbook and a few pieces of lined paper. I read a paragraph and then took the important information and diagrams and put paper in order. After spending about an hour, I had read the entire chapter, but also had a study guide to read over to prepare for the test. Since then, I have used this method for all of my Advanced Placement classes. It helps me remember the information without being overwhelmed and I plan to continue using this method with my college classes.
