Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.
I believe I have found the best method that works for me. Whenever I have a test, I like to begin studying a few days in advance, so I'm not overwhelmed with the material. If I begin studying too late, I find myself too stress to absorb any material that I'm trying to obtain. Before I start studying, I like to make myself a cup of coffee or tea to give myself the energy to study for at least an hour or two in a sitting and to relax. I find it best to study at a location that is associated with learning.
When it's finally time to sit down and study, I like to look over all my notes and write any key information and equations on a separate sheet of paper, so I have a reference sheet for easy access. I find rewriting important information helps me retain the information and have all the significant notes in one place. After gathering my notes, I would revisit my homework problems and redo all the problems I've struggled with the first time around or had gotten wrong. I believe it's crucial to see where you went wrong the first time. Also, when you see your mistakes, your brain makes a mental note of it, so you don't make the same mistake again.
After I have done a substantial amount of studying alone, I like to meet up with some friends and study together. During our study sessions, we often ask each other about the problems and concepts we don't understand. The study group helps me enormously as I am getting help while strengthing what I already know by teaching my friends. Study groups after studying on my own have been extremely effective for me.
