Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.
The best way to prepare for a test is to surround yourself with people who are smarter than you. To be more specific, organizing a study group with intelligent people who are focused and driven. Not only will this improve your knowledge on a subject, it will improve your group's knowledge as well. Teaching a subject to other people is the best way to ensure you have a deep understanding of the topic. Therefore, during study sessions, ask others to clarify questions you may have for the upcoming test and also answer questions you have a good understanding of. Your group can take advantage of practice test questions that mimic the format of the exam. Questions can be found on test preparation sites or study sites (i.e. Quizlet) or can even be formulated by study group members before meeting to touch base. This allows every member of the group to think of the most probable topics and concepts that will appear on the test and get everyone into a test taking mindset. When in study group, answering these questions individually, then dissecting the answers together will refine information and improve test taking strategies as group members analyze why a particular answer was true or false. However, working in a group comes with its own set of distractions. Therefore, taking breaks to reset focus is important to keep productivity high and prevents burnout. I believe helping others and studying together is the best way to prepare for a test. If two minds are better than one, then a group of like-minded, determined individuals is a test preparation success story in the making.
