Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.

According to numerous theories, every human learns differently whether it be visual, auditory, reading/writing, or kinesthetic. In some instances it is a combination. It is how our brains are wired that give us that learning edge. We just have to find out which "key" fits our brains best. This has not been understood until recently. For example, a child learning 30+ years ago was considered slow if they didn't grasp the coursework like the rest of the children when in retrospect, they might have had a different learning requirement for their minds that wasn't being met. Being a visual and kinesthetic learner myself, I am aware of what I need in order to succeed in my education.
I am currently enrolled as a Surgical Technology major at my college. It is within this program that I will learn all about the body, how it works, and different procedures and instruments necessary to assist surgeons with operations. In Anatomy and Physiology, students are required to memorize every muscle, bone and parts of bone in the body. There are around 206 bones in the body to give some perspective. In order to memorize the parts of the bone being a visual and kinesthetic learner, I know that I benefit from seeing and doing. Let me walk you through how I learned the different parts of the humerus (upper arm bone). I first made a list of the different parts I needed to learn. Then, I associated the medical sounding words with things that made sense to me. For instance, for the word "fossa," I would use the word "fossil". For the word "coracoid", I would make up a character named Cora. So, using this list of familiar things, I made up a story and therefore memorized the different curves and bumps of the humerus bone. This allowed my brain to make a new path and allowed me to recall this silly story I had made up.
We all have different learning approaches but its best to know which works for you and apply it to your studies!
