Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.
The best test prep strategy I have used has been to 1) work backward, 2) plan, and 3) stick to the plan. 1) imagine test day and work back from there. The most important test of my career was the USMLE step 1. I researched the test and all the best test prep materials, blogs, and information I could find. I also researched the test itself, the duration, and the amount of material covered. 2) I then worked backward and created a study plan which incorporated a period to review all of the expected material, and then another period to review problem areas and do practice tests. 3) Then, I stuck to the plan! There were always people posting about their plans and there was huge temptation to switch over, but their program was strategized by them for their study pattern and not to me and my problem areas so I stuck with mine. I ended up scoring in the 99th percentile and moving into my dream career.
