Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.

The first time I received my results from the ACT, I was disappointed in my results and myself. I was taking honor and AP classes and doing well. I had good study habits. So, I thought I would get a higher score than what I actually got. I expressed concern to my science teacher Mr. Irvin and he recommended that I take an ACT test prep course or a tutor.
After doing some research, I discovered that my guidance counselor offered an ACT prep course over the summer. I enrolled and she taught me how to find context clues in the reading section. Which helped me respond to the question that I was being asked. But after taking a practice test, I realized I needed a personal tutor.
So, I found Johnathon and he taught me how to prepare and manage my time taking the ACT. He also educated me on the importance of time management. He reiterated how to use context clues. After I spent a good amount of time, preparing with the tutor, the next time I took the ACT bumped up my score 5 points.
I learned that not performing well does not mean failure. Colin Powell said, “There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.” I prepared by taking an ACT prep course and getting a tutor and my success was an improved test score.
