Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.
Studying has always been an extremely difficult task for me. Forming advantageous study habits took a lot of experimenting. I used to handwrite notes for hours then highlight and circle key terms and ideas, but other than being time-consuming, it was not helpful at all. Being a kinesthetic learner, I come to learn that traditional study methods were not right for me. Learning more about myself, I found that I best retained information from projects as opposed to lectures. I could remember my third-grade baking soda and vinegar volcano and the chemical reactions associated with it, but I do not remember any information from my anatomy lecture yesterday. I enjoy the ability to be hands-on and understand concepts through objects. Because of this, I find the most beneficial studying methods to be making flashcards. Using online resources like Quizlet to make electronic flashcards has been immensely helpful in preparing me for exams through the use of repetition. Another method that I find to be helpful is to make songs or rhymes out of the content that needs to be studied. Being an amateur musician, I can memorize song lyrics pretty efficiently, so I love to associate what I am learning to a particular beat to aid in understanding the material. I enjoying making song associations because, in addition to helping me study, I get to learn in a fun and interactive way.
