Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.
My favorite way to prepare for tests is to become the teacher. When I am capable of teaching others the information I need to know for an assessment, that's when I know that I truly comprehend the material. When I'm at home, I'll sit down with a family member and teach them the study material. I'll demonstrate my knowledge on the subject or skill and then ask them for questions. Having them question my knowledge on the material helps me prepare for anything. When I know the answer to one of their questions, this boosts my confidence, which is incredibly important when testing. If I enter an assessment feeling more confident, I find that I often do far better. If I don't know an answer to one of their questions, I make sure to learn the answer so that I may be prepared for any sort of question that I might see on my test or quiz. This kind of test prep isn't always possible, of course, because I'm not always with another person that has time to listen to me talk for an unspecified amount of time. I'm often with friends studying, and they of course have their own work to do. I find that in these moments what helps me the most are my online resources. For assessments that require simply memorizing material, I'll utilize online flashcards. The basic repetitive nature of it allows me to remember the material better. After seeing the same question five or so times I'm incredibly likely to remember its answer. For tests that require more application and comprehension, online quiz websites such as Khan Academy are my most effective tool. It tests how well I comprehend material, and also gives me resources such as videos to use to bridge any gaps in my knowledge. For me, these practices have allowed me to become a proficient learner which is reflected in my 4.09 GPA. I've studied hard with these skills and I would recommend them to anyone who is trying to better themselves on their educational journey.
