Write an essay where you tell us what test preparation practices work best for you and why.
I am pursuing a teaching license while teaching severe behavioral needs special education full-time. I mention this because I am busy, I only have so much time to dedicate to studying, and I must be very intentional in sparing limited time and resources to studying. In order to be admitted into the college teacher licensing program, I had to pass four content Praxis tests. I’ve heard my colleagues gripe about having to take, and retake the tests because they couldn’t seem to get the passing scores that they needed, and I could see anxiety building inside me the closer I got to test day. Instead of panicking, I prepared by purchasing the Mometrix 5001 Study Guide, and followed the tips and suggestions to design a study plan. I covered the material in the book, created flash cards from the content provided, and took multiple practice tests. By the time I showed up at the college testing center, I felt adequately prepared on how to execute the examinations. I had a plan for taking the test; including details like time management, guessing strategies, and relaxation techniques. I am proud to say that I confidently breezed through the examinations, and earned Passing Plus scores on all four content tests. I now suggest Mometrix study guides to anyone who has Praxis testing, and I continue to use them for other endorsement tests that I need to take and pass!
